Heinrich Klaasen, wicketkeeper and destructive middle-order batter, does not have a bowling career to talk about – but was called upon to bowl by Aiden Markram, who was filling in as captain for Temba Bavuma.

He bowled three wicketless overs in the warm-up match, conceding 23. The highlight of his spell was a shocking no-ball to Devon Conway, leaving everyone in splits.

The ball slipped out of Klaasen’s hand and soared over Conway, then over wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock – in other words, the ultimate moon ball. Klaasen couldn’t believe his eyes and muttered “oh no” in surprise.

Chasing 322, South Africa were comfortably placed at 211-4 in 37 overs until rain came down heavily. Bavuma’s men lost the match by seven runs (DLS method), despite an de Kock’s unbeaten 84, Rassie van der Dussen’s fifty, and Klaasen’s 37-ball 39.
