Rauf was bowling the final over of his spell with South Africa creeping towards their target eight wickets down. Ngidi blocked out the first two balls of his over, South Africa still needing 11 runs to win. Off the third ball of the over, Rauf produced a moment of magic which twisted the game in Pakistan’s favour.

He bowled a length ball ball sliding across Ngidi which the tailender attempted to tuck off his pads into the leg side. However, he got a leading edge which popped up in the air back towards the bowler.

Rauf dived forwards, one handed with his eyes fixed on the ball which was rapidly heading towards the turf. He managed to get his left hand underneath the ball and secure it safely as he tumbled to the ground. Rolling over after hitting the deck, Rauf threw the ball up into the air and let out a below of celebration. He was quickly mobbed by his teammates in recognition of his effort.

However, despite Rauf’s heroics South Africa just managed to get over the line by one wicket. Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj managed to block out an over of Mohammad Wasim Jr before Maharaj hit a four off Mohammad Nawaz to seal the result with 16 balls to spare.

Pakistan have now lost four consecutive matches and face a near-impossible task to reach the knock out stage.
