England didn’t start well on their quest to chase 400 runs since South Africa unleashed a fired-up pace-attack against the defending champions, making their stay at the crease uncomfortable. The pace quartet of Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada and Gerald Coetzee breathed fire and ran through their batting order.

Coetzee came to bowl his second over of the match at the end of 11 overs with England teetering at 67-4. He snicked past Jos Buttler to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. Coetzee was ecstatic to dismiss the England captain after being hammered for 16 runs in the previous over.

The pacer followed the dismissal with another strike just a delivery later. He wrapped Harry Brook around his pads with a skiddy delivery that kept low. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena raised his finger to rule Brook out. However, Coetzee was so sure of the outcome that he didn’t look to the umpire for his decision and roared in celebration. Brook’s review went in vain as the decision stayed.

England were bowled out for 170 in 22 overs, slumping to their third defeat in this year’s World Cup. Their campaign is in tatters with them reeling second last on the points table.
