Watch: David Warner, who has bowled just one over in his 150-match ODI career, tried his hand at bowling during Australia’s 2023 World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan, but ended up conceding a big leg-side wide on his very first delivery.

Warner last sent down a ball in the format in 2012, when he bowled one over and conceded eight runs against England at Chester-le-Street. It remains the only over he has sent down in ODIs.

In a bizarre sequence of events, Warner was given the ball in the 26th over by Australia captain Pat Cummins during the warm-up game against Pakistan. Bowling to Babar Azam, Warner did not have an ideal start, as the ball seemingly slipped out of his hands and went down leg.

Babar did not attempt to play the ball, as it was called a wide. “The line a bit awry, but love the release,” said Sanjay Manjrekar on air.

The day kept getting worse for Warner the bowler: He was hit for seven boundaries, including two sixes, over the span of eight balls, conceding 41 runs in two overs, and it could have been the last we have seen of him with the ball.
