India beat Bangladesh comprehensively, by seven wickets. Virat Kohli played a key role with an unbeaten hundred, but before that, their bowling performance, aided by outstanding fielding, restricted Bangladesh to 256-8. Bangladesh were off to a flying start, scoring 93 runs for the first wicket before the Indian bowlers, led by Ravindra Jadeja (2-38), held them back. He also complimented his outstanding bowling form with some breathtaking fielding.

The Indian team has introduced a practice of rewarding the best fielder after every match at the ongoing World Cup. After the Bangladesh match, fielding coach T Dilip reckoned that India saved 13 runs on the field. There were three contenders – Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul – for the medal. Jadeja and Rahul pulled off two outstanding catches, while Kuldeep was a livewire in the outfield.

Dilip named all three before unravelling the winner on the giant screen of the stadium in Gahunje, in the outskirts of Pune. The dressing-room stood in anticipation as Jadeja’s sharp catch of Mushfiqur Rahim’s at point flashed on the big screen. The players roared in celebration to congratulate Jadeja.
