Sri Lanka named their final 15-member squad for the ICC World Cup. Wanindu Hasaranga, who recently re-injured himself during his rehabilitation, has failed to make the cut as he won’t recover on time for the World Cup.
Sri Lanka retained Dasun Shanaka as the captain despite recent reports of replacing him with Kusal Mendis. Mendis continues to remain Shanaka’s deputy.
Every cricket squad picked by Sri Lanka needs the approval of the Sri Lanka government. The Sri Lankan sports ministry approved 17 players and 13 support staff to travel for the World Cup. These include the injured Hasaranga, who has not made it to the final 15.

There were doubts over the fitness of left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka as well, but he has been passed fit and selected in the main squad. All-rounder Chamika Karunaratne has been named as a travelling reserve.
The media release by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) mentions that Hasaranga’s recovery will be closely monitored. If he becomes available during the course of the World Cup and a cricketer in main squad gets injured, Hasaranga will be considered as a replacement.
Leg-spinning all-rounder Dushan Hemantha, who has played just three ODIs, has been named as a like-for-like replacement for Hasaranga.
