Shakib sustained a quadricep injury in the clash against New Zealand and missed the India game, but returned for the South Africa fixture on October 24. He replaced middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy in the starting XI.
Meanwhile, Bavuma, who missed the England match due to a gastric illness, is yet to recover completely. Vice-captain Aiden Markram will continue to lead in his absence, after captaining South Africa to a 229-run win against England. He has won four and lost four while leading his country. Pacer Lungi Ngidi is also sitting out due to a mild knee niggle, making way for Lizaad Williams.
Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign has looked in disarray after losing three straight games, to England, New Zealand, and India, after starting on a winning note against Afghanistan.
On the other hand, South Africa have played consistent cricket, toppling big teams like England and Australia by huge margins. Barring the shock defeat against the Netherlands, they have posted totals of over 300 runs on every occasion. They racked up 428-5 against Sri Lanka, the highest total in men’s World Cup history, 311-7 against Australia, and 399-7 against England.
