On the eve of the high-voltage clash, Akhtar posted a picture of him dismissing Tendulkar during the first Asian Test Championship in 1999. Pakistan won the match courtesy of Saeed Anwar’s unbeaten knock of 188.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) to remind everyone about the face-off: “Kal agar asa kuch Kerna hai, toh #ThandRakh.”
The English translation of the post stands as: “If you want to do something similar tomorrow, keep your mind cool.”

Tendulkar stayed quiet until India had secured a seven-wicket victory, but got the final laugh. Addressing him as ‘My friend’, he wrote how the pacer’s advice had helped him to ‘keep cool’.

India recorded their eighth straight win over Pakistan in the men’s ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad. Batting first, the tourists collapsed from 155-2 to 191 all-out. The hosts made light work of the paltry total with Rohit Sharma playing as the wrecker-in-chief in the run-chase. Rohit departed for 86 (63) after bringing up his fifty off just 36 balls.
Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 2-19 off seven overs with the ball. The Men in Blue sit proudly at the top of the group-stage points table with three successive victories and a net run-rate boost of +1.821.
