Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi finished off the 283-run chase with an over to spare, after Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz put on a 130-run stand. Having been put in to field, they restricted Pakistan to under 300, with teenager Noor Ahmed taking three wickets for 49 runs.
The win is the first time Afghanistan have beaten Pakistan in ODI cricket, and the fourth time in all forms of international cricket. It’s also Afghanistan’s third ever win in a 50-over World Cup match, and the first time they’ve won more than one match in a single competition.
Reacting to the win online, many were full of praise for Afghanistan’s performance.

There was also significant commentary on Pakistan’s performance. Having collapsed after a solid start with the bat, a rapid 40 from Iftikhar Ahmed put Pakistan in a position to post a defendable target. But, several misfields cost them runs in the chase, and their spinners lacked control with the ball, allowing the runs to flow.
It’s Pakistan’s third consecutive loss in the competition, after their opening two wins against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. They now sit in fifth place in the table, with a match in hand over all-but one of those below them.
Will this be the impetus for Pakistan cricket to clean house? I have my doubts, but if not now, when? – not only this, but all recent performance’s have been ordinary. I don’t care what happens in the changing room; all teams have disagreements. I will however question commitment…

Clueless in all departments of the game. Wake up, before it’s too late.
