India didn’t cut Pakistan any slack during their 192-run chase. From the word go, captain Rohit Sharma dispatching the bowlers all over the park to bring up his fifty off just 36 deliveries. The damage was already done when Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed him for a 63-ball 86 in the 21st over. Rohit also scored 131 off 84 during his previous outing against Afghanistan.

Shreyas Iyer racked up an unbeaten fifty despite looking scratchy at the start of his innings. He partnered with KL Rahul to ensure India safely got over the line without losing further wickets.

Earlier, when Pakistan were sent to bat first, openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq had scored 41 runs for the first wicket. They looked good until Mohammed Siraj trapped him plumb in front with a cunning cross-seam delivery. Later, Hardik Pandya sent back Imam for 36 (38) as Pakistan lost their second wicket for 73.

Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for 36 runs

Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan got together in a period of consolidation, stitching an 82-run stand. Siraj played a spoilsport just when it seemed like a total of over 350 was on the cards. At the 29.4 overs mark, Babar got cleaned up by Siraj right after scoring his maiden fifty against India. The wickets triggered a collapse as Pakistan slipped from 155-3 to 191-all out in the blink of an eye.

India were clinical with the ball as five players picked two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for his figures of 2-19 from seven overs. The highlight of his match-winning performance was the wicket of Rizwan. He pegged the wicketkeeper-batter’s stump with a brilliant off-cutter while he was on 49. Shadab Khan, who departed for an uneventful 2 (5) was Bumrah’s other victim.
