ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Top five individual scores
Devon Conway – 152 (121)* vs England
Conway lit up the opening game of the World Cup with a sublime hundred against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing a tricky total of 283, Conway, along with Ravindra, made short work of the target as he handled the English bowlers with ease and handed the defending champions an unexpected drubbing in the first match of the tournament.
Dawid Malan – 140 (107) vs Bangladesh
Malan, England’s most in-form ODI batter, showed why he was preferred over Jason Roy in the World Cup squad when he stroked a quick hundred against Bangladesh at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, taking England to a winning total of 364.
Mohammad Rizwan – 131 (121)* vs Sri Lanka
Rizwan’s first World Cup century came in a record run-chase. On a flat surface in Hyderabad, Sri Lanka put up 344-9 on the back of hundreds by Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Rizwan, who has scored more than 800 runs in ODIs this year, joined hands with Abdullah Shafique in the second innings and anchored the run-chase, the highest-ever in World Cup history, to perfection, remaining unbeaten on 131.
Rohit Sharma – 131 (84) vs Afghanistan
Rohit Sharma has been at his belligerent best at the World Cup. Following a duck in the first match against Australia, Rohit came out all guns blazing against Afghanistan in Delhi, scoring his seventh World Cup century, the most by any player in the history of the game.
Rachin Ravindra – 123 (96)* vs England
Ravindra got an opportunity to bat at the top of the order due to the absence of Kane Williamson and he grabbed it with both hands. Putting on a classy display of traditional stroke-making in the tournament opener, Ravindra scored an unbeaten hundred against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to announce his arrival at the World Cup.
