India wrapped up the World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka with another clinical show, stretching their tournament’s unbeaten streak to seven games. The hosts wracked up 357-8 after being sent to bat first, thanks to an 189-run stand between Virat Kohli (88) and Shubman Gill (92) aided by a quickfire 82 (56) from Shreyas Iyer. Ravindra Jadeja’s 35 runs off 24 balls helped India finish on a high.
In reply, Sri Lanka, in an encore of their Asia Cup 2023 final debacle, were reduced to 3-4. After Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj made early inroads with the ball, Mohammed Shami decimated the rest of the opposition’s batting order and finished with 5-18.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 55, recording the third-lowest World Cup score ever and the lowest by a full-member country. Canada (36 and 45 in 2003 and 1979) and Namibia (45 in 2003), lead the unwanted list with the lowest team innings in the World Cup.
Social media went abuzz as India returned with another dominating all-round performance to seal their fifth semi-final appearance.
For decades if batters in India were the headline act fast bowlers were the accompaniment tracks more often than not. What Bumrah, Shami and Siraj have done is turned fast bowling into the special attraction band, one that seems to churn out platinum albums for fun #CWC23 #IndvSL

If India had declared after 8 overs of their innings, we'd have an absolute thriller here

I have heard stories of hostile bowling. I have myself faced a few. But honestly I have never seen a bowling attack this hostile and intimidating as India! Bumrah, Siraj and Shami are scaring opposition batsmen! Go India, win the World Cup #INDvSL

Many congratulations Team India on making it to the semi-finals. Just 4 more to go.
Mohammed Shami was outstanding and is having a cracker of a world cup. 14 wkts in 3 matches in this edition makes it 45 in 14 WC matches, which is phenomenal. #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/QDyaOJ3RXa— Venkatesh Prasad (@venkateshprasad) November 2, 2023
