England, led by Jos Buttler, will play their two warm-up matches – against India on September 30 and against Bangladesh on October 2 – at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, India.
The defending champions have named their 15-member World Cup squad. Harry Brook, who was not named in the provisional squad announced earlier, is the latest addition to their campaign. He replaced Jason Roy, who was an integral part of the 2019 setup. Roy suffered a series of back spasms and didn’t feature in the recently concluded four-match ODI series against New Zealand at home.
In Roy’s absence, Dawid Malan is almost certain to open batting with Jonny Bairstow.
England’s 15-member squad will be accompanied by their lone travel reserve, Jofra Archer, whom they may want to include if he is fit and one of the main squad members is unfit.
The warm-up game fixtures will act as a prelude to the main event. All 10 teams have two practice games each to hone their skills and get acclimatised to the conditions prior to the showpiece event.
Guwahati, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram are the three chosen venues for the preparation games across four days. They matches will not get ODI status, as teams can include all 15 members (11 to bat, 11 to bowl) from their squads to test bench strength.
