England’s XI: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (C+WK), Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.
Afghanistan’s XI: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi.
England are without Ben Stokes for their third game in a row of the 2023 World Cup. Stokes has been recovering from a hip niggle but there were positive signs he could make a return today. However, England have opted to give Stokes another few days to prepare ahead of their next fixture against South Africa.
Afghanistan have opted to include Ikram Alikhi to take the burden off Gurbaz with the gloves. Najibulllah, who misses out for Alikhi has struggled in the tournament so far, registering scores of five and two against Pakistan and India respectively.

Match prediction: England vs Afghanistan
It’s hard to see the result going any other way than in England’s favour. Afghanistan were torn apart by India and struggled against Bangladesh in their opening match. They would do well to restrict England to a respectable margin of victory.
