England vs Bangladesh, World Cup 2023 Match 10: Toss
Shakib Al Hasan won toss and opted to bowl at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. He expects the Bangladesh seamers to do well in these conditions.
Bangladesh replaced batting all-rounder Mahmudullah with spin-bowling all-rounder Mahedi Hasan, while England brought in fast bowler Reece Topley for spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali.
ENG vs BAN, CWC 2023 Match 10: Team updates and XIs
England: Jos Buttler (c & wk), Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.
Bangladesh: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Towhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman.
Ben Stokes is yet to recover from his hip niggle. England have also left out Moeen Ali, who had batted at No.5 against New Zealand. They have opted to bolster their pace attack with Reece Topley.
This is perhaps because the three England fast bowlers – Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Mark Wood – had combined figures of 17-2-137-1 against New Zealand; and the new ball usually does a bit in hilly Dharamsala. In the process, they chose to go in with one fewer all-rounder.
Bangladesh, too, have compromised on batting by replacing Mahmudullah with Mahedi Hasan. Both are off-spin-bowling all-rounders, but while batting is Mahmudullah’s stronger suit, Mahedi is a bowler who bats.
The match is Jonny Bairstow’s 100th ODI. He became the 27th England cricketer to reach that milestone in men’s cricket.
The teams have played four times at the World Cup: England won in 2007 and 2019, and Bangladesh in 2011 and 2015.
