BAN vs NED, World Cup 2023 Match 28: Team news
Bangladesh and the Netherlands have barely played against each other in the past. Out of their two previous outings, one came in World Cup 2011, where Bangladesh won, while the other face-off was a one-off ODI in 2010, where the Dutch prevailed.
Bangladesh’s campaign has been in disarray as they lost four consecutive matches to India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa after starting with a win against Afghanistan. Shakib Al Hasan’s prophecy of Bangladesh lifting the World Cup in 2023 looks distant as they are reeling at the bottom half of the points table. Some lacklustre bowling combined with questionable batting has contributed to their failure.
Shakib has managed only 56 runs in his four outings, contrary to his 606 runs in 2019. The lean patch forced him to fly back to Dhaka midway through the tournament to consult his mentor, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim. However, he has rejoined the squad in Kolkata ahead of the clash. Pacer Taskin Ahmed will return to the side after missing the last two games due to a shoulder niggle.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands haven’t been able to replicate their form after pulling off the most famous World Cup upset with a win over South Africa. The top order has barely contributed with the bat. To add insult to injury, the 309-run defeat against Australia resulted in droopy shoulders.

Match prediction: Who will win today’s BAN vs NED match?
Bangladesh, on paper, looks like a stronger squad, but the Netherlands have been more consistent despite carrying the tag of ‘underdogs’ heading into this tournament. Don’t be surprised if the Dutch spring another surprise.
