Iyer has been a vital member of the Indian middle-order and made his fourth fifty-plus score in a row of the tournament at the Wankhede Stadium. Though his innings was overshadowed by Virat Kohli’s record 50th ODI ton, he played a blazing knock nonetheless, scoring 105 in 70 deliveries with the help of eight sixes.

The right-hander brought up his hundred on the second ball of the 48th over when he knocked a length ball by Tim Southee towards long-on and took a single to reach the landmark. Upon reaching triple digits, he took off his helmet and raised his bat towards the dressing room, where skipper Rohit Sharma was ready to mimic the batter’s celebration.

Rohit raised his right hand, pretending he was holding a bat, and grinned lazily like Iyer often does, which led to laughter from his teammates Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav.
