BBC’s live website coverage of the Cricket World Cup final broke their all-time record for the most number of page views on a ‘live page.’
Their coverage of England’s epic last-ball thriller received just 40 million page views, dwarfing their live coverage figures of the Wimbledon final (13.4 million) and the British Grand Prix (2.5 million) that took place on the same day.
It is understood that the World Cup final received more views than any other live coverage event on the BBC website, breaking the previous record of 35.4 million page views during their coverage of the 2017 General Election.
Highest live page for BBC News Online previously was 35.4m page views for the 2017 Election.

TV viewing figures were also hugely encouraging. The final had a total peak audience of 8.3 million across Channel 4 and Sky Sports, more than double the peak audience number (3.7 million) that tuned in to watch the British Grand Prix on the same two channels. The combination of the two events saw Channel 4 record its highest overnight share (11.4 per cent) for seven years.

Commenting on the figures, Channel 4’s CEO Alexandra Mahon said: “It’s wonderful that the whole nation can come together to share these momentous British sporting events thanks to a fantastic partnership between Channel 4 and Sky.”
