Mark Wood is to undergo a fitness test on Friday morning ahead of England’s game against West Indies tomorrow down in Southampton.

A troublesome ankle is seeming to bother the fast bowler after he reported discomfort through the game in Cardiff last Saturday against Bangladesh. It is believed to only be a little niggle but given Wood’s recent injury woes, England are unlikely to take any chances with their pace bowler.

England have been limited in their outdoor training in preparation for their fourth World Cup game due to the downpours across the country. As a result, Wood hasn’t had the chance to train at full pelt outdoors.

“His ankle is a little bit sore at the moment,” England captain Eoin Morgan said. “We haven’t bowled for a few days so it depends how he feels when he bowls in the morning. If it’s still sore, we probably won’t take a risk.”

He is a vital asset to England – his pace has been up this tournament and has been clocked at bowling the fastest ball of the tournament so far (154kph).
