Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s participation for their clash against Sri Lanka at the 2019 World Cup on Tuesday, June 11, has been put under a cloud, after the all-rounder was sent to hospital for scans following a thigh injury.
Shakib sustained the injury, to his quadriceps, during their previous match, against England, in which he made a hundred in a losing cause. It is understood that Shakib batted in the England game with the injury, necessitating precautionary scans after its conclusion.
He subsequently missed the team’s training session in Bristol on Monday, and it has now emerged that his participation in Tuesday’s World Cup clash is in limbo as team management awaits the reports of his scan.

”We have sent him for a scan as he had received some pain on his glutes during the game against England,” Bangladesh selector Habibul Bashar said on match eve. “We can know about it in detail after receiving the scan report, but at present, it seems his participation is somewhat 50-50.”
This is not the first time that Bangladesh have sustained an injury scare with their talismanic all-rounder. Against West Indies, in the final of the Ireland tri-nation series that concluded shortly before the tournament, Shakib had to be rested due to back pain.

Shakib has been the lynchpin of Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign this far, and an injury-forced absence would come as a huge blow to the team, at a time when they are seeking ascendancy on the table.
Shakib has slammed two half-centuries and a century in three matches so far, and is comfortably leading the tournament run-charts. Bangladesh are currently eighth-placed, with a win and two defeats.
