Watch: Taskin Ahmed bowled a cracking in-seamer to castle the in-form Will Young in the first over of New Zealand's run-chase against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi at the 2025 Champions Trophy today (February 24).
Defending 236, Bangladesh got off to the perfect start with senior pro Taskin bowling a wicket maiden first up. He started off with a back of length delivery on off stump with Young defended before going fuller on the second ball.
The third ball beat Young's bat as he hung it to dry outside off, the fourth was defended off the front foot, as was the fifth. Taskin went even fuller with the last ball of the over, pitching it outside off and getting it to nip back in at pace.
The fullness of the delivery lured Young into an expansive straight drive, only for him to leave a big gap between bat and pad, which was enough for the ball to sneak through and for Taskin to break into a roaring celebration.
It was a big wicket considering the kind of form Young came into the game with. He had hit his fourth ODI hundred and first one outside New Zealand in the previous match against Pakistan.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh had struggled their way to 236 on the back of a patient 77 by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and 45 by Jaker Ali from No.7. Michael Bracewell bowled a career-best spell of 4-26 from 10 overs to keep Bangladesh down to a below par total.
