India batter Virat Kohli became the just the third batter to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket during India's Champions Trophy match against Pakistan on Sunday (February 23).

India were sent in to field after Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first in Dubai. After a couple of early blows, Rizwan and Saud Shakeel put on 104 for the third wicket to rescue their side. But a middle-order collapse followed soon after, and only a couple of solid blows from Khushdil Shah towards the end lifted them to 241 all out in 49.4 overs.

In reply, India started briskly before captain Rohit Sharma was knocked over by Shaheen Shah Afridi for 20 off 13 balls, bringing Virat Kohli to the crease. Despite a couple of nervy moments early on, Kohli began to find his feet with a couple of signature punches through the covers.

The second of those, in the 13th over off Haris Rauf zipped away for four, and helped Kohli cross the milestone of 14,000 ODI runs: he became only the third player to do so. Having gotten there is just 287 innings, he is now the fastest to the landmark by a massive margin. Sachin Tendulkar, in second place, took 350 innings to do so.
