Playing against Pakistan at the 2025 Champions Trophy, Virat Kohli caught Naseem Shah to set a new record for most outfield catches for India in ODIs.
Kohli came into the 2025 Champions Trophy with 154 outfield catches, two behind Mohammad Azharuddin’s Indian record of 156. In India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh, he caught Najmul Hossain Shanto off Harshit Rana and Jaker Ali off Mohammed Shami to draw level with Azharuddin.
In India’s second game, Kohli held Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav to set a new Indian record. Later, he also caught Khushdil Shah off Rana to round off the Pakistan innings and reach 158.
Not only does Kohli have the most catches among Indians but he also has 0.533 catch per innings – in other words, more than a catch every alternate innings. To find a better ratio, one has to go down to Ajinkya Rahane’s 48 catches (in 87 innings, a ratio of 0.551).
