Varun Chakravarthy's five-wicket haul led India to victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy – in the process, he achieved an ODI first for India.
In the final group stage match of the tournament, India were sent in to bat by New Zealand after losing a world-record 13th consecutive ODI toss. They eventually put up 249-9, courtesy of Shreyas Iyer (79), Axar Patel (42) and Hardik Pandya (45).
In reply, New Zealand were rocked early before finding runs hard to come by in the middle overs. The pressure told as they eventually folded for 205. Varun Chakravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief on his Champions Trophy debut, taking 5-42 with the wickets of Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry.

Varun Chakravarthy becomes fastest India bowler to register ODI five-wicket haul
This was just Varun's second ODI, having taken 1-54 on debut against England at Cuttack last month. His five-wicket haul in this match has set a new Indian record for the quickest bowler to register a five-wicket haul.
Before him, no other Indian man had taken more than four wickets in their first or second ODI. Stuart Binny had been the quickest to register a fifer, taking 6-4 in his third ODI against Bangladesh in 2014.
Three other members of India's current Champions Trophy squad make the top 10 in this regard – Arshdeep Singh took 5-37 in his fourth ODI, Jasprit Bumrah took 5-27 in his 19th ODI and Kuldeep Yadav took 6-25 in his 21st ODI.
