ICC chair Jay Shah has been accused of "stealing Team India's moment" after he joined Rohit Sharma for a victorious captain's photoshoot with the Champions Trophy.
The chair of the sport's governing body, who was also previously secretary of the BCCI, was part of the photoshoot that marked India's victorious Champions Trophy campaign this week. India won the tournament after beating New Zealand in the final in Dubai, sealing their second ICC title in nine months.
Shah posed with Rohit beside the trophy with the Burj Khalifa in the background, honouring the side's tournament wins in both white-ball formats of the game. Rohit was filmed shaking hands with Shah, who had presented him with the trophy following the final, with Shah also in shot on his own.

The decision for Shah to attend the photoshoot with Rohit has been widely criticised by several voices online, many of whom expressed that appearing beside Rohit showed a lack of neutrality. Sri Lankan cricket journalist Estelle Vasudevan further stated that Shah being part of the photoshoot was 'stealing Team India's moment".

Shah had also posed with Rohit after India's win in the T20 World Cup last year, holding the trophy alongside him after the final in Barbados. At that time, however, he was not the ICC chair, having started his role in December 2024, replacing Greg Barclay.
