South Africa have announced their squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Temba Bavuma named as their captain.
The squad marks the return of Anrich Nortje, who is set to make his first ODI appearance since September 2023 due to a series of injuries. The fast bowler missed the 2023 ODI World Cup and South Africa's entire home summer due to a stress fracture on his back. He made a comeback in IPL 2024 before representing South Africa in their runners-up finish in the T20 World Cup last year. He has also opted out of a national contract with Cricket South Africa to manage his injury and hasn’t played international cricket since the tournament.
Another toe injury sustained in the Abu Dhabi T10 ruled him out of action from the T20I home series against Pakistan in December last year.
Lungi Ingidi has also made a return, having recovered from a groin injury, which kept him on the sidelines since October 2024.
South Africa have largely kept their core that helped them reach the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-finals, retaining 10 of the 15 players from that outfit.
Alongside Nortje, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder are the fresh inclusions.
South Africa, placed in group B of the Champions Trophy will play their tournament opener against Afghanistan in Karachi on February 21. They then play Australia in Rawalpindi on February 25 and their final group fixture is against England on March 1.
