Michael Bracewell claimed 4-26 in a Champions Trophy 2025 match against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi to enter the record books.
Bangladesh got off to a brisk start after Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bowl. Coming on first change, however, Bracewell put a brake on their scoring when Kane Williamson caught Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s (24 in 24 balls) mistimed slog off him.
On a slightly slow pitch, Bracewell took the pace off the ball, making it difficult to hit. After being tied down, Towhid Hridoy finally decided to chance his arms but could not time the ball, and Williamson held another catch.
One of the best players of the slog sweep, Mushfiqur Rahim tried his favourite stroke against the off-breaks of Bracewell, but could only find Rachin Ravindra in the deep. Not too long afterwards, Mahmudullah’s attempted swish went to Will O’Rourke at short third.
Barcewell's best ODI figures
Bracewell finished with career-best figures of 4-26 from 10 overs. He had taken four wickets in an innings once before – 4-36 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in November 2024.
Among New Zealand spinners, only Daniel Vettori (9) has more ODI four-wicket hauls than him. In fact, Vettori has taken nine of the 19 four-fors by New Zealand spinners. The other 10 are shared by seven spinners, of whom four are playing in the ongoing game.
Vettori (39) also has the most Test four-fors among New Zealand spinners. At second place, with nine four-wicket hauls, are Ajaz Patel and... John Bracewell, Michael’s uncle.
