Ibrahim Zadran went past several legends during his century in the England vs Afghanistan Champions Trophy 2025 clash in Lahore today (February 26).
Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first in the must-win encounter. They were struck early by Jofra Archer's triple-wicket opening spell where he broke England's all-time men's ODI record for the fastest player to 50 wickets. By the end of the 10th over, Afghanistan were 39-3, with Zadran holding fort alongside captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.
The duo steadied the ship for Afghanistan adding 103 for the fourth wicket before Shahidi departed. Zadran, however, kicked on, getting more and more fluent as his innings went on. He reached his hundred in the 37th over, tapping Liam Livingstone for a single into the leg side.
First Afghanistan player with multiple ICC tournament hundreds
This was Zadran's sixth ODI hundred and his second in an ICC event (World Cup, Champions Trophy, and T20 World Cup combined), having already scored one at the 2023 World Cup in the famous match against Australia in Mumbai.
This was also only the second hundred scored by an Afghanistan batter in a top level ICC limited overs tournament (World Cup, Champions Trophy, T20 World Cup), with Zadran's Mumbai ton being the other one.
Yet to reach 24 years of age, Zadran has overtaken Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Chris Gayle, Mahela Jayawardene, and Yuvraj Singh among others in the list of most ODI hundreds aged 23 or less. Virat Kohli leads the chart with a whopping 13 ODI hundreds before turning 24. Zadran's opening partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz is joint-third on the list with eight tons as well
At the time of writing, Zadran was batting on 167 with Afghanistan at 309-5 from 48 overs.
