Rachin Ravindra etched his name in record books with his fifth ODI hundred, which came during the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa in Lahore.
Batting first, Ravindra led New Zealand's charge in the second semi-final, playing pristine shots throughout his innings off seamers and spinners alike. Following Will Young's departure for 21 in the eighth over, he was joined by Kane Williamson, who anchored the innings at one end while Ravindra kept the scoring rate up with regular boundaries at the other. The left-hander reached his hundred in the 32nd over, off 93 balls, before nicking behind to the wicketkeeper two overs later for 108 off 101.
Whose record did Ravindra break?
This was Ravindra's fifth ODI hundred, all five coming in either World Cup or Champions Trophy matches. He scored three in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, followed by a fourth against Bangladesh earlier in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
The semi-final against South Africa was Ravindra's 13th innings in a World Cup or Champions Trophy game, making him the quickest to score five hundreds in these tournaments by that measure. He broke Shikhar Dhawan's record, who achieved the feat in his 15th innings in an ICC tournament, against Sri Lanka at the 2017 Champions Trophy.
Overall, only 14 batters, including Ravindra, have scored five or more hundreds in World Cups and Champions Trophies combined. Ravindra has now equalled the likes of Joe Root, Chris Gayle, and Saeed Anwar on five.
