Ravindra Jadeja took 1-30 off his 10 overs to enter the record books during the Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand on Sunday (March 9).
After being asked to field first, India restricted New Zealand to 251-7 despite the batting side getting a flying start from their openers. Spinners Varun Chakravarthy (2-45) and Kuldeep Yadav (3-40) led India’s bowling effort. Jadeja too played a crucial role by bowling a miserly spell besides taking the important wicket of Tom Latham.
Jadeja’s figures (3.00 an over) are now the third-most economical 10-over spell by a spinner in an ICC ODI event final. Only Pat Symcox’s 2.90 (10-0-29-0) against West Indies during the 1998 Wills International Cup final and Harbhajan Singh's 2.70 (10-1-27-3) during the Champions Trophy 2002 final against Sri Lanka are ahead of him.
Though Kapil Dev tops the below-mentioned list for conceding only 1.90 runs per over during the 1983 World Cup final, he bowled 11 overs, one short of his full quota. In those days, ODIs were 60 overs per side. Taking that into account, Joel Garner's figures of 12-4-24-1 (2.00 runs per over) in the same match are the most economical completed spell by a bowler in an ICC ODI event final.
