India set an unwanted ODI record against Pakistan when skipper Rohit Sharma lost the toss at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (February 23).
In both sides' second match of the 2025 Champions Trophy, Pakistan elected to bat first after Rohit called the toss of the coin wrong. It was a similar story in India's first match of the tournament at the same venue, when Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto also chose to bat first.
Whose record did India break?
The latest toss loss has extended India's run on that count to 12 ODIs, which is now a world record. Before the Champions Trophy, India lost all three tosses in the home series against England in February. Prior to that, they lost all three tosses on their tour of Sri Lanka in August 2024, and all three on their tour of South Africa in December 2023.

The start of this run came just before that South Africa tour, in the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad. It has also spanned two captains in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul (who captained in South Africa).
The previous world record for most consecutive ODI tosses lost was held by the Netherlands, who lost 11 tosses in a row from March 18, 2011 to August 27, 2013.
