ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Lockie Ferguson ruled out of Champions Trophy, NZ name replacement

Lockie Ferguson injured

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the 2025 Champions Trophy and a replacement for him has been named.

Ferguson suffered a foot injury while playing for the Desert Vipers in the ILT20on February 5 and consequently did not make the trip to Pakistan for the tri-series which New Zealand won.

Now, with just one day to go for the start of CT 2025, Ferguson has been ruled out of the tournament with New Zealand being forced to name a replacement.

Who will replace Lockie Ferguson?

Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has been named as Ferguson's replacement for the Champions Trophy. The Event Technical Committee has approved Jamieson as Ferguson's replacement for the tournament.

Jamieson last played for New Zealand in a Test match in February 2024, while his last ODI appearance came before the 2023 World Cup, in September 2023 in Bangladesh.

Ferguson is the second seam bowler New Zealand have had to replace from their original Champions Trophy squad, Ben Sears being the first. Sears was ruled out due to a hamstring injury, and has been replaced by Jacob Duffy.

Jamieson has played 13 ODIs so far, picking 14 wickets at 36.50 at an economy rate of 5.07. While he has not set the stage on fire in white-ball cricket, his Test record reads an impressive 80 wickets from 19 games at 19.73 apiece.

New Zealand will kickstart the Champions Trophy with the opening encounter against hosts Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi tomorrow (February 19).
