Defeating New Zealand in the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy helped India consolidate their position at the top of the ICC ODI rankings.
India beat New Zealand in the final at Dubai to win the 2025 Champions Trophy. After the Indian spin quartet restricted New Zealand to 251-7, Rohit Sharma smashed 76 at the top of the order before Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34 not out) shepherded India to a win with four wickets and six balls in hand.
Rohit was named the Player of the Match in the final, while Rachin Ravindra was named the Player of the Tournament.
India were already the top-ranked side in the world by some distance. The win took their points from 6430 to 6486, though their rating remained at 122, well clear of second-placed Australia’s 110, who are closer to Sri Lanka at sixth place than they are to India at first.
With 106, New Zealand were tied at third place with Pakistan. They dropped to 105 (and fourth place). South Africa (100) are the only other side with a three-figure rating, though at 99, Sri Lanka are not too far behind.
