A new No.1 batter and bowler were both crowned after the latest update to the ICC men's ODI rankings on Wednesday (February 19).
Shubman Gill dethrones Babar Azam as No.1 ODI batter
The most significant shift in the rankings is the change at the top of the batters list. After three fifty-plus scores, including a century, against England, India opener Shubman Gill made his way to top spot, dethroning Pakistan's Babar Azam, who had been on top of the rankings since November 4, 2024.

This is not Gill's first time atop the standings, though. Between November 2 and November 19, 2023, he was the No.1-ranked ODI batter in the world. In fact, that is the only period of time since July 2021 that Babar has not been at No.1.
Other significant moves saw Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka move up eight spots to No.8, and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan gain six spots, to now sit in 15th.
Maheesh Theekshana becomes ODI No.1 for the first time
There is a new No.1 bowler in the format too – Sri Lankan mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana. He took 4-40 and 0-11 in two home ODIs against Australia as Sri Lanka won the series 2-0. This is Theekshana's first stint at the top, with his previous best ranking having been No.3 in January this year. His current rating of 680 points is also a career high.
India's Kuldeep Yadav traded places with Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi, and now sits at No.4. New Zealand's Mitchell Santner also gained five spots to now rank No.7 in the world.
