Gill poses with the POTM after his century v Bangladesh

Shubman Gill added another feather to his bulging cap of achievements, becoming the fastest India player to eight ODI centuries, after his Champions Trophy hundred against Bangladesh.

The 25-year-old Gill is already 11th on the list of men's ODI hundreds among India players. Among India openers, he's seventh on the list. His century against Bangladesh in their 2025 Champions Trophy fixture was his second century in a row, having hit 112 against England in the final one-dayer of the series that preceded the tournament.

In fact, Gill now has four fifty-plus scores in a row in ODIs and currently averages 120 from four innings in 2025.

Fastest to eight ODI centuries: Where does Gill rank?

Shubman Gill now has eight ODI centuries, the same number Jacques Kallis, Saeed Anwar and Ricky Ponting had before turning 26. He took 51 ODI innings to reach his eighth ton: making him the fastest Indian to the mark. Before him, Shikhar Dhawan was at the top of the pack among Indians, having taken 57 innings to get to eight ODI hundreds.

The overall record still stands with Hashim Amla, who took just 43 innings to reach eight ODI hundreds.

Rank Batter Country
Innings to 8 100s
1 Hashim Amla South Africa 43
2 Babar Azam Pakistan 44
3 Rahmanullah Gurbaz Afghanistan 46
4 Imam-ul-Haq Pakistan 47
5 Shubman Gill India 51

What other records has Gill broken?

In the England series, Gill broke Amla's record for the most runs after 50 ODI innings, also becoming the fastest to 2,500 runs in the format. In 2023, he had also become the fastest to 2,000 ODI runs.

If he continues in the same vein, Gill might have a chance to break Quinton de Kock's record for the fastest to 10 ODI centuries. De Kock reached the mark in 55 innings: to beat him, Gill will have to score two centuries in his next three matches. Two of those would be against Pakistan and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy.

Gill is now 312 runs short of 3,000 ODI runs. To become the fastest to that landmark, he will have to get those runs in the next five innings. Amla, again, has the record, having reached the milestone in 57 innings.
