Opening batter Ben Duckett equalled England's national record for being the fastest to reach 1,000 runs in ODI cricket during the match against Afghanistan at the 2025 Champions Trophy in Lahore.
Duckett came into the game with 996 runs from 20 ODIs at an average of 52.42, having hit a record-breaking 165 in England's previous match against Australia.
The left-hander, who had climbed to 17th in the ICC ODI rankings for batters earlier today, his best ever position in the format, drove Azmatullah Omarzai for four through cover in the second over to get to the 1,000-run mark.
Whose record did Duckett equal?
Before Duckett, three Englishmen shared the record for the fastest to 1,000 men's ODI runs - Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott, and Dawid Malan - each of them having done so in 21 innings. Duckett joined the three today during his knock against Afghanistan.
Several other greats of the game have reached 1,000 men's ODI runs in their 21st innings, including Viv Richards, Quinton de Kock, and Babar Azam.

The world record holder in this regard is Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman, who achieved the feat in 18 innings. Imam-ul-Haq and Shubman Gill are joint-second having reached their 1,000th ODI run in their 19th innings each.
The time taken between Duckett's ODI debut and the match where he reached his 1,000th run in the format, however, is nearly 8.5 years, the longest anyone has taken to score 1,000 ODI runs among those in the top 17 on this list.
