Players of South Africa celebrate after Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa catches and stumps Liam Livingstone of England (obscured) during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between South Africa and England at National Stadium on March 01, 2025 in Karachi, Pakistan

South Africa handed England a seven-wicket drubbing to seal their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Here's how the result affects the tournament's points table.

Batting first, England were skittled out for 179 after Marco Jansen eliminated the top order. England's familiar batting woes persisted as Joe Root top scored with 37 before being dismissed by Wiaan Mulder, who took 3-25 off 7.2 overs.

During the run chase, South Africa were jolted early as their experiment to promote Tristan Stubbs to open the innings failed. Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen, however, got together to stitch a 127-run stand to take South Africa close to the total. Klaasen, in an attempt to finish the match with a six was dismissed by Adil Rashid for 64 off 56 balls, while van der Dussen remained till the end to finish unbeaten on 72, taking his team to a seven-wicket win.

Having entered the match as the firm favourites to seal a semi-final berth, South Africa joined Australia in the knockouts from Group B. The win took them to five points, helping them end the group stage at the top. Australia, meanwhile, on the virtue of a record chase against England and washouts against South Africa and Afghanistan, finished second, with four points.

The result has officially ended tournament dark horse Afghanistan's campaign.

The semi-final line-up will depend upon the result of the last group fixture between India and New Zealand tomorrow. India, like their previous matches, will play their top-four fixture in Dubai irrespective of the result in the New Zealand match.
