Shreyas Iyer of India celebrates his half century with teammate Virat Kohli during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Pakistan and India at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23, 2025 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

India thrashed Pakistan by six wickets in a Group A Champions Trophy fixture today (February 23). Here's how the result has affected the tournament standings.

After being asked to field first, India got their first breakthrough in the ninth over when Hardik Pandya snared Babar Azam for 23. In the next over, Pakistan lost their second wicket as Imam-ul-Haq was run out for 10 by Axar Patel adding to an unwanted record.

Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) tried to steady the ship, stitching a 104-run stand but that was pretty much it for the batting team. Kuldeep Yadav, who reached his 300th international wicket, finished with 3-40 off nine overs to bowl out Pakistan for 241. With 302 wickets to his name, he is 12th on the list of highest wicket-takers for India.

In response, India started aggressively with Rohit Sharma hitting three fours and a six but his innings was cut short by Shaheen Shah Afridi for 20 off 15 balls off the last ball of the fifth over.

Gill also took the attack to the opposition and made a handy 46. However, the innings highlight was the 114-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. Iyer struck 56, while Kohli brought up his 51st ODI century. With India needing two from 46 balls, Kohli smashed a four to seal his landmark and eventually the match by six wickets.
