Afghanistan scored 325 riding on ther back of Ibrahim Zadran's record-shattering knock of 177 in the first innings. In response, England were in trouble early on, losing two wickets inside the first ten overs.
Joe Root (120 off 111) kept England in the hunt along with Jos Buttler (38) and Jamie Overton (32), but Afghanistan held their nerve in a nail-biting finish to win the match by eight runs and knock England out.

This result has kept Afghanistan's hopes alive. If they win their last league game against Australia, they will qualify for the semi-final, while a loss will knock them out. In Group A, the two semi-finalists have already been decided - India and New Zealand.
