The South Africa-Australia clash was abandoned without a ball being bowled, making it the first washout of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
There was rain throughout the day in Rawalpindi, the venue for the seventh game of the tournament. The toss, scheduled to be held at 1.30 pm local time, was delayed due to persistent showers as the long wait continued for the skies to clear up.
However, at 5 pm local time, the match was officially called off, nearly two-and-a-half hours before the cut-off time. Both teams have been awarded a point each, with South Africa holding onto their place at the top of the points table in Group B.
They currently have a healthy net run rate of +2.140, while Australia, also have three points but are second with a net run rate of +0.475.
Australia’s next game in the Champions Trophy is against Afghanistan on February 28 at Lahore, while South Africa will play England a day later, in Karachi.
The Proteas had earlier defeated Afghanistan by a margin of 107 runs, while Australia recorded a historic chase against England to get their campaign off to a clinical start.
Meanwhile, India and New Zealand have already qualified from Group A.
