Australia pulled off a stunning chase of 352 in their first match of the 2025 Champions Trophy against England. Here's how the result has affected the tournament standings.
England were put in to bat in Lahore, and were given a quick start by openers Ben Duckett and Phil Salt, before Salt and No.3 Jamie Smith both fell in the Powerplay to leave their side 76-2 by the end of it.
Duckett and Joe Root then took England through the middle overs, before Root departed for a composed 68 in the 31st over. Thereafter, it was the Duckett show as the opener went past three figures, and ended up with 165, the highest score in Champions Trophy history, to power his side to 351-8.

Australia also lost two early wickets in the form of Steve Smith and Travis Head, leaving them tottering at 27-2. Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Short managed to keep the runs flowing in a brisk 95-run stand before they both departed in the space of three overs.
The match-defining partnership came between Josh Inglis and Alex Carey, who put on 146 for the fifth wicket, off just 116 balls. Inglis went on to score an unbeaten century, with Glenn Maxwell providing the late impetus to help complete Australia's second-highest ODI run chase ever, and the highest by any team in an ICC ODI tournament.
