During the last Champions Trophy group fixture in Dubai on Sunday (March 2), New Zealand’s Matt Henry became the first-ever bowler to take a five-wicket haul against India in the tournament.
After opting to field first, New Zealand's bowlers gave them the early advantage. While Kyle Jamieson dismissed Rohit Sharma for 15, Henry removed Shubman Gill (2) and Virat Kohli (11) cheaply, reducing the batting team to 30-3.
Shreyas Iyer, who equalled Brian Lara with a well-fought 79 at No.4, played a rescue act supported by Axar Patel's 42 and a run-a-ball 45 from Hardik Pandya. But Henry eventually finished the innings off in style with three more wickets, restricting India to 249-9.
Henry's 5-42 are the second-best bowling figures by a New Zealand player in the Champions Trophy and the 10th best overall. Sri Lanka's Farveez Maharoof holds the all-time record with his 6-14 against West Indies in 2006. It is also the first five-wicket haul against India in the tournament. Pakistan's Naved-ul-Hasan's 4-25 in 2004 were the previous best figures.

Against India, Henry has now taken four or more wickets on three occasions. No other New Zealand bowler has achieved this feat as many times, with Andre Adams, Trent Boult, Jacob Oram, and Tim Southee all tied for the second-most with two.
Apart from Maharoof, only Josh Hazlewood has taken a six-wicket haul in a Champions Trophy match, achieving the feat against New Zealand in the previous edition in 2017.
