Watch: Shoaib Malik launched his bat up in the air, looking to play a pull shot as he was out caught and bowled in Karachi King’s PSL clash with Peshawar Zalmi.

Having come in with his side struggling in a chase of 198 at 79-3, Malik was facing up to Aamer Jamal for the fourth ball of his innings. Sent down a short ball to negotiate, Malik heaved across his body, looking to launch the ball over the leg side for his first boundary of the day.

Instead, with the ball suddenly getting big on him, he top-edged the ball straight up into the air for Jamal to jog down the wicket and take a simple catch. But the ball wasn’t all that went up in the air.

Malik lost his grip on his bat as he followed through with the shot, launching it behind him over his left shoulder. To give an indication of the power that was put onto the shot, the bat ended up landing just to the left of keeper, Haseebullah Khan, who was standing well back from the stumps.

As Jamal completed the catch and Malik had to walk off, Haseebullah helpfully picked up the bat and returned it to its owner, before joining his teammates to celebrate.

Peshawar Zalmi went on to lose the match by 24 runs after being reduced to 122-8 in the 16th over. In the first innings Rovman Powell hit a blistering 64 off 34 balls, along with half-centuries from Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Haseebullah to post 197-5.
