Watch: A comedy of errors on the Pakistan Super League opening night saw Hussain Talat reprieved after a mix-up with Sikandar Raza, with Shanawaz Dahani missing a run-out chance from close in.
Dahani seemingly had time to run and take off the bails himself, but opted to shy at the stumps, missed, and allowed Talat to regain his ground.
The moment came in the 17th over of Lahore Qalandars’ innings on the first night of the 2023 edition of the PSL, bowled by Dahani. Raza kept out a length ball, defending the ball into leg-side. With no fielders in close, Talat attempted to pinch a single, but Raza did not respond to his partner’s call.
Talat was almost at the striker’s end by the time he turned, with Dahani picking up the ball in his follow-through. The bowler was closer to the stumps than the batter, and didn’t have any equipment encumbering him, so was seemingly best placed to win a footrace to the other end.
However, instead of running to the stumps and whipping off the bails, Dahani decided to throw down the stumps, missed, and Talat regained his ground.
Both were shown smiling at the aftermath, Talat perhaps at his own good fortune, and Dahani surely in wry fashion after squandering an easy chance at a breakthrough.
Dahani ended with figures of 1-40 as Lahore Qalandars racked up 175-6 in their 20 overs.
