Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi produced a spectacular 19th over, picking up two wickets and giving away just one run as he nearly turned the tide of a high-octane encounter.
The Lahore Qalandars had put up a massive total on the board and ransacked 206 runs in their 20 overs. The Multan Sultans, though, rode on Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood’s heroics to reduce the equation to 17 runs off the final two overs. Under ordinary circumstances, the Sultans would’ve cruised through to the target. But with Afridi firing on all cylinders, there was another twist in the tale. The pacer conceded just a solitary run off the penultimate over of the game.
On the fourth ball of the over, Afridi accounted for Tim David. The seamer bowled a very full delivery on leg stump and got David to mistime his attempted slog to long on. A couple of deliveries later, Afridi darted a wide yorker and induced a false stroke from Sohaib Maqsood. The latter sliced his shot to backward point. Earlier in the game, Afridi had gotten the better of Rizwan too. Unfortunately for the Qalandars, Afridi’s efforts went in vain as Khushdil Shah hit four consecutive boundaries in the final over to win the game.
Afridi has been in sensational form over the past year and recently bagged the ICC Cricketer of the Year award. As far as T20 cricket is concerned, the fast bowler made his mark at the T20 World Cup in the UAE and was a major contributor as Pakistan reached the semi-final of the global event.
