Watch: Rilee Rossouw produced a sensational century in the PSL, the fastest ever in the competition, to turbocharge Multan Sultans to a four-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi on Friday (March 10, 2023).
Peshawar Zalmi, riding on Babar Azam’s 39-ball 73, posted 242, which was their second total of 240 or more in as many innings. Just like the other day, though, they were unable to defend it, with Rossouw proving to be their undoing this time. The left-handed batter took just 41 balls to get to his century, breaking the PSL record for the fastest century. The previous best was also held by Rossouw, who got to the three-figure mark off 43 balls against Quetta Gladiators in 2020. His innings was filled with an array of strokes. He flicked the ball beautifully, reverse-swept, targeted the straight boundaries and never let the bowlers settle into a rhythm.
Rossouw could not take his side home, being dismissed in the penultimate over when 16 runs were required. By then, though, he had broken the back of the run-chase and had laid the foundation for Multan Sultans to emerge victorious. His knock was studded with 12 fours and 8 massive sixes. The 121 runs he scored came off just 51 balls and took Multan Sultans a step closer to qualification.
