Watch: Kieron Pollard blasted Shaheen Shah Afridi for three sixes in an over in Multan Sultan’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) qualifier clash against Lahore Qalandars today, with the pair in an exchange of words during a feisty clash.
Multan Sultans began slowly with the bat, with Mohammad Rizwan’s innings coming in for criticism for its cautious nature. However, they preserved wickets and were able to target the death overs in style, smashing 57 runs in four overs between overs 16 and 19.
While Tim David began the acceleration, hitting four and six off Zaman Khan, it was Pollard who truly took charge, hitting Shaheen for one six in the 17th over, Rauf for six and four in the 18th – including a tough chance which burst through Shaheen – and then three sixes off Shaheen in the 19th.
The second of those, a helicopter whip over long-on, took Pollard to a 31-ball half-century, and while he fell for 57 off 34 in the final over to a 154kph Rauf delivery, he had done his job.
The game was a tense one, with Rilee Rossouw unhappy with Fakhar Zaman in the chase after he ran a single when a ball deflected off his body, and Shaheen and Pollard exchanging words during Pollard’s innings. Pollard gestured with his hand as Shaheen walked past, and Shaheen turned back towards Pollard, with the West Indian shaking his head as the conversation continued.
Pollard’s innings put Multan Sultans on track to qualify for the PSL final, making them favourites for the tournament in the cricket betting.
