Islamabad won the toss and elected to field first, sending the hosts in. Imad Wasim got opener Tim Seifert stumped in the third over to give Islamabad their first breakthrough. Leus du Plooy then stitched a 40-run second-wicket partnership with skipper Shan Masood before being bowled by Salman Ali Agha for 24 off 15 in the eighth over.
Hunain Shah was the sixth bowler to be handed the ball. He came on in the tenth over of the innings. After conceding eight runs off the first three balls which included a boundary off a no-ball, Hunain came back strongly. The fourth ball was a yorker on middle stump which Masood could only dig out back to the bowler.
The next ball, at the same length, beat Masood’s bat as it tailed away from him ever so slightly, and crashed into his off-stump, sending it cartwheeling. Masood was dismissed for a painstaking 27 off 30 balls. Karachi finished their innings at 165-5, with Hunain returning figures of 1-30 from his three overs.
In the chase, Colin Munro smashed a 47-ball 82 to take Islamabad home. He was ably supported by Alex Hales, who scored 47 off 35, adding 108 runs for the first wicket. Islamabad won by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.
