Watch: Whenever the Pakistan Super League is ongoing, you should expect fireworks – and that was literally true on the opening night, with a floodlight tower set alight by the pre-match pyrotechnics.

As is customary, the 2023 edition of the PSL got underway with a spectacular show, with music and much more preceding the opening clash between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. A central part of the festivities was the fireworks, with over 100-seconds worth fired off from the roof of the stadium ahead of the game.

As the lights and smoke subsided however, it was clear something was amiss, with one of the floodlight towers having been struck. A small fire was visible from the ground, and, as shown in videos posted by Samaa TV reporter Qadir Khawaja, the fire services were called.

There was a delay to the game, but no reduction in overs.
