Watch: Karachi Kings skipper Babar Azam was at his best in the field, plucking two brilliant catches in his side’s defeat against Islamabad United.
Islamabad got off to a good start after winning the toss and looked all set for a big total before Babar’s first major intervention in the field. Off the first ball of the 16th over, Shadab Khan tried to go over the inner circle fielders on the off-side. The ball seemed to have all but pierced the ring and appeared destined to head towards the boundary when Babar sprinted from mid-off and slid in to take a splendid catch.
But the skipper wasn’t done for the night. In the 18th over, Asif Ali tried to loft one over the covers off Usman Shinwari. Here, Babar ran back and stretched out his arms to a ball that was going out of his reach. He managed to hold on to a magnificent catch eventually, and Ali had to walk back.
On commentary, former England opener Nick Knight said: “Oh brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. What a catch! One of the most difficult catches in the game.”

Although the night didn’t go as expected for Babar with the bat, and his side went on to lose the game, he still managed to leave his imprint on the game.
